if you argue with positive posts like. idk, grow up

yeah i have more and nuanced thoughts on this, but generally. idk. not everything is about you. if you see a positive post and it makes you angry, just stay silent. don't look for reasons to be angry and Definitely don't lash out or share your negativity with strangers???

Few things will get you blocked faster than being a spiteful killjoy. Let the love in or at least let it pass you by without angrily tearing it to shreds in front of the person trying to articulate it. yes, even if they articulated it in a way you didn't appreciate. you can just ignore the post. damn

Sometimes it is very specifically about seeing a cute bird too, like. Yes the world sucks and you can have a bad day but it really can be something as small as a very tiny, very cute bird that hops onto a windowsill a foot away from you and makes you Feel Feelings Again. You just gotta put yourself in any kind of situation that lets you Feel Things whenever you get a little too angry and tangled up like that.

one time I made the mistake of getting in a youtube comment fight on the local news channel no less and I made myself a rule I could only respond during breaks while pulling weeds literal touch grass quota to online discourse would highly recommend tbh

Something real weird in my head hearing people talk so emphatically about there being a kid on board that submarine, then clarify in the same breath he’s 19. It probably wouldn’t get so tangled up and feel like such an important detail but, with all the talk of what’s appropriate for minors? Kids can’t get transition care. Kids can’t hear about gay stuff. Kids can’t make medical decisions. Kid means anyone under… 25? 30?

Kids have no agency over their lives or bodies. There’s a real creeping dread I get when people keep pushing that line up. And I know people aren’t necessarily thinking along the same lines when they say it now, they just mean 19 is way too young to die (when isn’t?). But 19’s old enough to make informed choices, old enough to have some idea of what you’re getting into, old enough to take risks even if you do still feel kinda invulnerable. 19’s not a kid. It does a lot of people a disservice to think so.

current events rambling saw some comment saying anyone under 25 is a kid to me and 30 is pushing it like what does that actually mean to you though if you mean young just say young but do you mean actual child? do you mean cannot make their own decisions? 27 and still feeling like I have to claw my own agency back with fingernails and teeth

Do you ever struggle with being a homeowner? I honestly hate owning my house and I feel like such a loser to admit it, but the constant upkeep is just so wearing on me. I know it’s one of the best investments I can make though, especially with how out of control rent is. How do you guys deal with making the best financial choices for yourselves, even if it makes you a little unhappy?

bitchesgetriches answered:

YOU ARE NOT A LOSER. Don’t you ever talk about our baby like that.

But also–yeah! Home maintenance is not for everyone! There’s definitely something to be said for coming home from work and not needing to lift a finger around the house. I get it!

While both us Bitches made the choice to buy homes (in a very good buyers’ market), we’ll readily admit these days that home ownership is not for everyone. And while it’s a good way to protect against rising rent prices, it’s not necessarily an “investment” anymore. At the end of the day, there’s a lot of security in owning the roof over your head. But times have changed, and home ownership might not be the best choice for you.

I guess my advice is to be realistic and honest about your feelings. There’s no law against going from home owner to renter again! Or even renting your house out to someone else (and hiring a property manager) while you go rent elsewhere to take the pressure off. Think creatively about your needs, not what everyone else says is a good investment.

Mood, especially with yard upkeep in summer, though I still much prefer having a house than renting personally.

My main advice bits to add on are:

  1. Don’t compare yourself to others on how well you’re maintaining. Especially when others include couples with a whole other person to help out, or you’ve mostly seen the most cleaned up version for guests.
  2. Prioritize and schedule out maintenance tasks in advance to get a lot of the mental work out of the way in one go instead of a constant slog.
  3. Relatedly group tasks where you can so a bunch gets done in a week and then you don’t have to care for a few months (esp around spring or fall).
  4. If you have the extra funds, there’s no shame in hiring out some recurring tasks like mowing.
  5. Those maintenance lists of all the things you should do/clean daily or weekly are bullshit. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just healthy and livable for you.

A lot of cleaning and laundry and dishes and all that is the same regardless, just maybe a bit more to clean in a house. So the house-specific bits tend to either be the yard or things that you can hire professionals for (thinking HVAC, gutters, roof repairs, all that kind of stuff), and appointments are easier planned in advance and grouped together.

If the issue is cost with all those appointments.. yeah that’s harder. Some can be muddled through on your own but it just depends.

Maybe it's less "no one knows how to hem" and more not everyone has access to a thousand dollar machine that requires a significant knowledge just to set up and operate without injuring yourself.

systlin answered:

I mostly handsew

I use a hand needle

It cost $2.49 for a container of fifty of them

Also weird ass way to try and start shit. How dare u hem your own things, lady!

Apparently it's elitist now to (checks notes) repair your own clothes

tumblr continues to tumblr good lord thousand is such a weird exageration too? like you can get basic machines for under $100 that work fine they often have little arrows and numbers showing you exactly how to thread them and I'd be damn impressed if you managed to injure yourself more than maybe a pinched finger ...but also hemming is honestly easier hand done to get a neat line
